Zappos

More Than Shoes

Zappos is one of the most respected e-commerce sites in the world. Before the redesign they found success through amazing customer service, but the design failed to reflect their great shopping experience. I worked with the Zappos team to create a design system to sustain massive growth and change as they evolved from a company that only sold shoes to one that sold a little bit of everything.

Getting a Little Weird

Although Zappos had created a robust web presence and a good user experience, the website always looked more like a wireframe than a successful brand. Zappos was often mistaken for a discount brand rather than one that offered great value. The prototype-like appearance did little to differentiate Zappos from other sites that were offering discount prices and poor customer experiences. The design system I created needed to balance great usability as well as setting Zappos apart from the e-commerce pack.
